TIBETAN SINGING BOWLS

(SOUND HEALING & MEDITATION)

For centuries, the Indian and Tibetan people have practiced sound healing and consciousness transformation with “singing bowls.” They are a quintessential aid to meditation, and can be found in temples, monasteries and meditation halls throughout the world.

In a Tibetan singing bowls healing session, the bowls are ‘struck and sung’ in specific rhythmic patterns to create vibrational sound harmonics at the frequency of “AUM” or “OM”; and as the bowls vibrate, they send waves of vibration throughout person’s body harmonizing the cells, engage the relaxation reflex and slow down the respiratory, brain and heart rate, and induce deep meditative state and self healing.   Tibetan Singing Bowls healing has also been shown to be effective in the healing process by reducing stress and aiding in chakra balancing and pain management.

 
How the sound helps in Meditation?

The pulsating tone engages the relaxation reflex, slows down the respiratory, brain and heart rate and creates a deep sense of well being.  The sound frequencies of the Tibetan singing bowls can engage you to activate the Theta brainwave.  Theta brainwave is a state where you are at the deep relaxation, deep meditation and light sleep. It is said that a sense of deep spiritual connection and unity with the universe can be experienced at Theta.  (Some scientists said that our mind’s most deep-seated programs are at Theta brainwave and there we experience vivid visualization, great inspiration, profound creativity and exceptional insight.)

Singing Bowl Healing by Mona Choi

What is the story behind Mona’s Tibetan singing bowls?

Mona Choi (a certified Ancient Massage therapist and instructor) will bring her antique Tibetan Singing Bowls to the session.  She received these bowls from her teacher Rahul Bharti when she was in Nepal in 2008.  These singing bowls were ‘hunted’ down by a guy who is specialized in searching and hunting these bowls in various parts of Tibet.  Some were hidden deeply and safely underground until recovered by him.  

What do you get out of a session?

The session is conducted in a group or private session. Mona will guide you to lay down on the yoga mat and position between the singing bowls.  You just need to focus on your breathing and relaxing your body and mind – and let the singing bowls take care of the rest.

After the session, you might experience improved memory, clarity, vitality and the ability to take action. It is often told by people who have undergone the Tibetan singing bowls Meditation that you can gain clarity on an issue, raise self-awareness and be more mindful of your surroundings. It is also normal if you don’t respond to it straightaway.
